History of Pallippad
Pallippad Grama Panchayat is a region with a rich historical and cultural heritage. It is believed that the name "Pallippad" originated from the presence of ancient Buddhist monasteries (Pallis) and the vast paddy fields that once flourished in the area. In earlier times, this region served as the principal residence of the chief minister of the Kayamkulam Kingdom, Vettivilayil Yajamanan. Following the victory of Maharaja Marthanda Varma, the area came under the administration of the Akavoor Mana.
Pallippad was an important administrative division of the Karthikappally District in the erstwhile Kingdom of Travancore. The region is renowned for its historical and religious landmarks, including the Thallickal Temple, Karimpalil Koyikkal Palace, St. George Orthodox Syrian Church, and the ancient Pallippad Juma Masjid, reflecting its rich religious and cultural diversity.
Pallippad is also closely associated with the renowned social reformer T. K. Madhavan, who carried out many of his reform activities in this region. The Panchayat has earned recognition for its educational and cultural institutions, including TKMM College, Nangyarkulangara, and Manjalil School, which have made significant contributions to the educational and cultural development of the area.
